HOUSEHOLD ITEMS
“Fantastic, funny and poignant voyages."
– Shelly Berg, jazz educator
Household Items is an ever-expanding collection of music that examines the realities of everyday life. Literally. Friedland composes settings that comically enhance texts chosen from items typically found in the household, childhood poetry, and a lease from an overzealous landlord. Household Items is a joyous commentary on the ridiculous nature of advertising claims, warning labels, and instructional manuals, along with Friedland's bizarre childhood thought processes, expressed through an eclectic mixture of styles that range from Irish jigs to Gospel anthems.
Friedland has presented Household Items at venues throughout the US with ensembles ranging from piano/vocal duo to a 23-piece orchestra.
